Diamond League: Tobi Amusan Breaks Meet Record with Stunning 100m Hurdles Win
Nigerian sprint hurdler and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, made a powerful statement at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, May 25, 2025, as she claimed victory in the women’s 100m hurdles with a record-breaking time of 12.45 seconds.
Her impressive run not only earned her the top spot on the podium but also set a new meet record, erasing the previous mark of 12.51 seconds set by American hurdler Brianna McNeal in 2018.
The win marks Amusan’s first Diamond League victory of the season and comes after a slow start to her 2025 campaign. She had finished fourth in both the Xiamen and Keqiao Diamond League events earlier this year, clocking 12.74 and 12.66 seconds, respectively.
Speaking after her race in Rabat, Amusan credited a renewed focus on technical training for her improved performance.
“More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting,” she explained. “After the first two Diamond League meets, I knew I had to go back and focus on hurdle drills. Just two weeks of concentrated work made all the difference.”
At 28, Amusan continues to cement her place among the elite in women’s sprint hurdles. The Rabat victory also sends a strong signal ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo later this year.
With this record-setting performance, Amusan has reminded the world of her capabilities and remains a key athlete to watch in the remainder of the Diamond League season.
