DHQ Reacts to Reports of Bandit Takeover at Military Training Camp in Niger State

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has firmly denied allegations that the Nigerian Army Training Camp in Kotangora, Niger State, has been overtaken by terrorists or bandits. This statement comes in response to claims made by the Niger State House of Assembly, suggesting that parts of the training facility had fallen into the hands of insurgents.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, clarified in an official statement that these assertions are “inaccurate and do not reflect the realities on the ground.” Addressing the public, Buba emphasized, “Not a single inch of the training area has been ceded to terrorists.”

He noted that while troops operating in the area have encountered armed groups, they have consistently neutralized any threats. “Our ongoing clearance operations in this region have prevented terrorists from establishing a foothold or gaining freedom of action,” Buba stated, underscoring the military’s proactive stance in addressing these security challenges.

Additionally, Maj.-Gen. Buba reassured the public that these operations specifically target terrorist elements, aiming to maintain security and stability within Niger State. He also highlighted the military’s close collaboration with the Niger State Government to bolster security efforts and protect local residents.

“Our forces are unyielding in their commitment to eradicating these threats wherever they may be hiding,” Buba concluded, reiterating the Nigerian military’s resolve to ensure the safety and sovereignty of all national territories.
