Delta Mob Lynches, Burns Woman to Death After Accusation of Kidnapping 7-Year-Old Boy

A woman accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy was lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Eyewitnesses said the woman allegedly hid the boy inside a sack while holding a Bible in her hand. Her actions reportedly drew suspicion from residents on Ekwvere Road, who stopped her to question what she was carrying. According to accounts, she appeared unstable and failed to give a clear answer. When the sack was forced open, the boy was found inside, prompting alarm that quickly attracted a large crowd.

Witnesses told Vanguard that the mob descended on the woman, beating her before placing a used tyre around her neck and setting her on fire.

The development has heightened tension in Agbarho, a community that has been battling rising cases of child abductions. Residents allege that more than 30 children have gone missing in the area over the past year. Just last week, a young man suspected of attempting to abduct a child was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Community members said the mob resorted to jungle justice because of concerns that the suspect might be released if taken to the authorities. One source described the incident as a warning to others involved in child abduction, saying residents wanted to make it clear that such acts would no longer be tolerated.
