Deeper Life Ministry’s Kumuyi Asserts Same-Sex Marriage as Unbiblical Amidst Pope’s Controversial Blessing Decision

In a recent address at the joint event of the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) and the 2023 National December Retreat, William Kumuyi, the general overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, emphasized his stance on same-sex marriage, stating it is not in accordance with biblical teachings.

Kumuyi, known for his commitment to adhering to the teachings of Christ, reiterated during the opening ceremony that he would stand firm in obedience to Christ’s directive on marriage. Quoting Jesus, he emphasized the importance of going into the world, teaching all nations, and baptizing them as per the divine commandments.

“The Lord Jesus Christ told us before he left that a man and a woman should be joined together in marriage until death do us part,” Kumuyi declared, reinforcing his commitment to traditional Christian views on marriage.

This statement follows closely on the heels of a controversial decision by Pope Francis, who recently granted permission for priests to bless same-sex couples in church. However, Kumuyi clarified that, in his perspective, such blessings should not be misconstrued as endorsing a marriage sanctioned by biblical principles.

The global reaction to the Pope’s decision has been diverse, with Archbishop Tomash Peta of Saint Mary in Astana, Kazakhstan, condemning the approval of blessings for same-sex couples. Peta went on to describe the Pope’s new stance as a “great deception,” echoing the sentiments of those who hold traditional views on marriage within certain religious circles.
