Death Toll Rises to Four in Ebonyi Corps Members’ Road Crash
The death toll from the tragic road accident involving 2024 Batch C Stream 2 corps members in Ebonyi State has risen to four. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday along the Okposi-Amasiri Road as the corps members were traveling to their orientation camp in Afikpo Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the crash involved an Enugu North Mass Transit vehicle, which collided with a stationary truck in the Okposi area of Ohaozara Local Government Area. The impact resulted in multiple casualties and injuries among the passengers.
A statement from the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, confirmed the fatalities late Thursday evening. At least 13 victims were rushed to the hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries upon arrival. Two others were transferred to the surgical ward, while several others were admitted to the accident and emergency unit.
One corps member managed to escape unhurt, while the driver of the vehicle sustained severe cervical injuries. Hospital officials report that the survivors are receiving treatment and remain hopeful for their full recovery.
