Davido Launches Chatter, a New Social Media App, Amid Criticism
Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, David Adeleke, widely recognized as Davido, has introduced a new social media application named Chatter. This development comes in the wake of his recent unsuccessful venture into the cryptocurrency market.
The failed crypto project, “Timeless Davido” ($DAVIDO), initially garnered significant excitement among his fans and supporters. Collaborating with major blockchain platforms Phantom and Solana, the digital currency initially surged, reaching a market cap of $10 million within just four hours. However, the excitement was short-lived as the coin’s value quickly plummeted.
Undeterred by this setback, Davido announced the launch of Chatter on Friday. In a post on his X handle, he revealed that he co-owns the app with his close friend Sir Banko. Chatter is described as a social audiovisual utility platform designed to connect content creators with a vibrant community, amplifying their voices.
Despite the innovative nature of the app, the announcement has met with a mixed reception online. Some netizens took to the comments to express their skepticism and frustration over Davido’s new venture.
User @Homiebishop remarked, “U don start again. 500k wey I lost for $Davido never do you abi.”
Another user, @TheBoykayy, commented, “na every time you de advertise one app or another.”
Concerns about potential financial involvement were also raised, with @fwbadpaul_ saying, “Hope say we no go put money again for this one again?”
@Flydrummerboi∅1 questioned the purpose of the app, stating, “Wetin this app be for again bros .. when you go save Afrobeat for me no be app be my concern 😪”
Lastly, @Aidokolucky humorously warned, “Believe this @davido at your on risk 😂😂😂 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️”
Despite the criticism, Davido remains optimistic about Chatter, positioning it as a significant platform for content creators in the digital age.
