“Damagum Must Go Whether They Like It or Not” – Fmr Benue Governor Demands Resignation of PDP Chairman Over Poor Performance

Former Benue State Governor Senator Gabriel Suswam has called for the resignation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, citing poor leadership and performance. This demand was made during an expanded caucus meeting held in Makurdi.

Suswam criticized Damagum for allegedly transforming the party into a “business venture” and asserted that he is unqualified to lead. “Damagum must go whether they like it or not,” Suswam declared emphatically, expressing his concerns about the direction of the party under Damagum’s leadership.

The former governor accused the national leadership of the PDP of actively working to undermine the party, claiming that there is a conspiracy among certain leaders to orchestrate “kangaroo” local government and state congresses in Benue State. He pointed out the inconsistencies, questioning how delegates could be selected for a state congress without prior ward and local government congresses, labeling the situation a sham that “would not stand.”

Suswam affirmed that the PDP is not lacking in ideas and stated that if their current strategies prove ineffective, they would pursue stronger alternatives. His comments reflect a growing dissatisfaction within the party regarding its current management.

During the meeting, Benue State PDP Chairman Mr. Christian Adaba Abah also addressed party members, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support and urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to the PDP. He reassured attendees that their loyalty would not be in vain.

Additional speakers, including Udu Nyitse from Benue North East, Cletus Upaa from Benue North West, John Ngbede from Benue South, and Hyacinth Inyakuma representing former House of Assembly members, all expressed their loyalty to the PDP. They conveyed confidence that the party would emerge stronger and reclaim its mandate in the upcoming 2027 elections.
