Cutlass-Wielding Man Disrupts Church Vigil Over Noise Pollution in Aba
A man armed with a cutlass disrupted a church vigil in Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State, reportedly in protest against what he described as persistent noise from the church’s activities.
The incident, which occurred during an overnight vigil, was captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media. In the footage, the man is seen confronting worshippers, drawing public attention to the issue of noise pollution in residential communities.
The episode has triggered mixed reactions online. Some social media users expressed sympathy with the man’s frustration, citing prolonged exposure to loud church services as a common problem in many neighbourhoods. Others, however, criticised his actions, arguing that resorting to threats and violence was unacceptable regardless of the grievance.
One user, identified as #mrboboskie, condemned the method of protest, stating that while noise pollution is a real concern, appearing at a church with a weapon was unjustifiable. Another user, #dahtgirl_ajex, suggested the incident may reflect unresolved complaints, noting that residents often feel ignored after reporting such disturbances through official channels.
Other commenters highlighted the broader issue of religious centres operating without adequate soundproofing in residential areas, with some pointing out that legal action remains a more appropriate option for addressing such disputes.
