CSOs in Rivers to Sue Fubara If He Works with Amaewhule-led Assembly
Civil Society Organisations (CSO), in Rivers State, have threatened to sue Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he relates with the Martins Amaewhule-led state House of Assembly.
The CSOs made up of activists, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), professionals, artisans and community based organisations with interest in human rights, democracy, public policy and development, handed the warning during a protest at Government House, yesterday.
Chairman of the CSO, Enefa Georgewill, told newsmen that there are desperate efforts by a few people and anti-democratic elements to subvert democracy and undermine the sacred office of the governor.
While describing the ongoing situations in the state as unfortunate and criminal, Georgewill said that the Constitution forbids Fubara from exchanging any correspondence from the Amaewhule-led Assembly as they are no longer recognised by law.
Recall that 25 members of the State House of Assembly, loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, led by Amaewhule, had, on December 11, 2023, in the heat of the crisis rocking Fubara and Wike, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform in which they were elected, and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Then the Edison Ehie-led faction of the Assembly (now resigned) took the matter to court and prayed to declare the seats of the decampees vacant.
Speaking during a protest, Georgewill urged the Fubara not to succumb to pressures and become part of the process to desecrate the Constitution.
