An Osun State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo has sentenced an aluminium worker, Sunday Ejoh, to six months in prison for stealing three yam tubers. Ejoh, a resident of Okinni, Osun State, was convicted on Monday after pleading guilty to theft.
The court, presided over by Magistrate M. Olatunji, heard that the yam tubers, valued at N3,000, belonged to Oluwole Durojaye. According to the prosecutor, Jacob Akintunde, the theft occurred on September 22nd, 2024. Items recovered from Ejoh included the stolen yams, a cutlass, and a pair of slippers.
Ejoh, who had no legal representation, admitted his guilt, explaining that hunger drove him to commit the crime. “I was hungry, and I have a family,” he told the court.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Olatunji sentenced Ejoh to six months in jail, offering an alternative fine of N25,000. The court also ordered that the stolen yams be returned to their rightful owner.
