Court Remands Man Over Alleged Murder of NYSC Member
A Nasarawa State High Court has ordered the remand of Timilehin Ajayi at the Lafia Custodial Centre over the alleged killing of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Salame Enejo, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
Ajayi, who appeared before the court on Monday, is facing charges of culpable homicide. According to the prosecuting lawyer, Stanley Ifeanyi, the accused allegedly murdered Ms. Enejo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), an act that contravenes Section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, which prescribes the death penalty upon conviction.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charge, the trial judge, Justice Simon Aboki, ruled that Ajayi be remanded until the next hearing. The case has been adjourned until March 17.
Justice Aboki assured that the case would receive an accelerated hearing due to its serious and sensitive nature.
