Court Dismisses Case Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters
The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the #EndBadGovernance protesters. The court’s decision, delivered on Thursday by Justice Peter Lifu, effectively ends the case due to a lack of diligent prosecution.
The case, initiated by 17 Nigerians from various regions of the country, also named the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff as defendants.
The plaintiffs sought a court order to halt the nationwide protests, claiming that the demonstrations infringed on their fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, human dignity, and the right to economic, social, and cultural development. They had requested the court to compel the AGF, IGP, and other security chiefs to take action against the protesters.
However, the case was dismissed after both the plaintiffs and the defendants, along with their legal representatives, failed to appear in court. Despite the case being scheduled for hearing, the absence of all parties led Justice Lifu to strike out the suit.
This dismissal marks a notable moment in the ongoing legal battles related to the #EndBadGovernance movement, which has garnered widespread attention across Nigeria.
