“Conspiracy of Silence Fueling Insecurity in Anambra” – Gov Soludo
Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has blamed a “conspiracy of silence” among residents for the rising cases of kidnapping for ransom and ritual killings in the state.
Speaking in Awka on Wednesday after inspecting the guard of honor and laying wreaths at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony, Soludo urged citizens to speak out and support security agencies in tackling crime.
“We all need to rise up and speak against what can be described as a ‘conspiracy of silence,’ which appears to be fueling criminal activities, including kidnapping for ransom,” Soludo said. “These criminals are known and live among us; they are people’s husbands, brothers, fathers, and relatives. Combating insecurity is a collective responsibility. If you see something, say something.”
The governor reassured that his administration remains committed to assisting security agencies in their efforts to keep Anambra safe.
He also paid tribute to fallen servicemen and women, recognizing their sacrifices for national peace and security.
“Anambra appreciates the sacrifices of our security personnel who put their lives on the line, enduring all manners of horrendous conditions. We pray that the labour and sacrifices of our fallen heroes will not be in vain but keep us united and strong as a nation,” he added.
The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence and a 21-gun salute in honor of the nation’s fallen heroes. Soludo also released pigeons, symbolizing peace and prosperity.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually on January 15 to honor Nigerian military personnel who served in global conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
