Confusion Deepens as Associates Deny Rumoured Death of Willie Obiano

Reports circulating online about the alleged death of Willie Obiano have sparked confusion, prompting strong rebuttals from his close associates who insist he is very much alive.

In a statement issued by Hon. Chief Nweke Christian Afamuefuna, the circulating claims were described as fake, malicious, and intentionally crafted to cause panic. He stated that Obiano is alive and in good health, warning those behind the rumour to retract their claims within 24 hours or face legal action. Afamuefuna condemned the spread of such sensitive misinformation, stressing that it is irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary tension.

Adding to the denials, Obiano’s former Chief of Staff, Prof. Joe Asike, stated that the claim is a “pack of lies.” He said he had spoken with Obiano in a recent 30‑minute conversation, insisting the former governor is alive and well.

Further clarification came from C. Don Adinuba, former Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, who emphasized that Obiano lives in Texas, United States, not London. He added that the former governor is healthy, strong, and agile at age 70. Adinuba expressed gratitude to individuals and international media, including the BBC, for their interest in Obiano, noting the global outpouring of support and admiration for his legacy. He reportedly likened the false death rumours to similar claims made about historical figures such as The Great Zik of Africa.

The conflicting reports have left the public uncertain, but multiple sources close to Obiano reportedly insist that he remains alive, well, and in good spirits.
