CIA Offers Buyouts to Entire Workforce to Align with Trump’s Agenda
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has reportedly offered buyouts to its entire workforce in an effort to align with President Donald Trump’s agenda. According to a Wall Street Journal report cited by Fox News, the CIA is among the first agencies to extend the offer, allowing employees to resign in exchange for eight months of pay and benefits.
Last month, the Trump administration proposed buyouts for approximately two million federal employees, to be funded through September. However, certain categories of workers, including those in national security roles, were exempt. Despite this, CIA Director John Ratcliffe is said to have urged the White House to extend the same offer to CIA employees. An aide told the Wall Street Journal that the goal was to create “a more aggressive” intelligence agency.
While the CIA was originally exempt from the broader federal buyout plan, Ratcliffe reportedly made a personal decision for the agency to participate. On Thursday, he contacted the Office of Personnel Management, seeking a process to formally extend the buyout offer to CIA employees.
Additionally, Ratcliffe is offering early retirement to long-serving officers while pausing the onboarding of new hires who received job offers late in President Joe Biden’s administration. This move is intended to ensure that new personnel align with the Trump administration’s priorities.
