Christian Bishop Criticized for Publicly Rebuking Woman and Her Son Over $1,235 Donation After Requesting $2,000
A video of US-based Bishop Marvin Winans has gone viral after he publicly criticised a woman and her son over a donation during a church fundraiser. The incident took place at Perfecting Church, where Bishop Winans had called on members to contribute $2,000 each toward a church project.
Roberta McCoy came forward with her son to donate $1,235, but Bishop Winans interrupted her announcement, questioning the amount. “Now, that’s only twelve hundred dollars,” he said, prompting McCoy to confirm the figure. Winans then told the congregation, “Y’all are not listening to what I’m saying,” stressing that he expected contributions of at least two thousand dollars.
When McCoy said she would “work on” bringing more, the pastor continued, saying, “That ain’t what I asked you to do.”
The clip has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism. Many viewers condemned the public rebuke, saying it was inappropriate to shame a congregant in front of others, especially when she had made a substantial donation.
