Chris Oyakhilome Reveals Why Some Worship Leaders Left Christ Embassy
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Christ Embassy, has spoken out about the departure of several gospel musicians from his church, attributing it to their pursuit of personal fame and financial gain over genuine worship.
Oyakhilome expressed concern that the church had drifted from its spiritual purpose, with music becoming more about self-promotion than devotion to God. He noted that some musicians would lead praise and worship but leave during prayer sessions, indicating a lack of true commitment. Additionally, he alleged that they charged for their services, treating their role as a business rather than a calling.
Initially, Oyakhilome said he celebrated these musicians but later realized their priorities were shifting away from worship. Despite his attempts to correct them, they chose to leave rather than change. He emphasized that true worship leaders should focus on glorifying God rather than seeking financial rewards or fame.
Reflecting on the situation, he lamented that the church had become more of a party venue than a place of prayer. According to him, the music in the church became worldly, with worship leaders more focused on themselves than on God. He stated that many pastors failed to recognize that secular influences were infiltrating the church.
Oyakhilome shared that when he decided to realign with what he believed was the right path, the musicians resisted change. He expressed hope that they would repent and return to their true purpose of leading worship in a way that honors God.
