Chisco starts bus, truck assembly in Lagos to power franchise rollout

Chisco Transport Limited has begun assembling Yutong luxury buses and Sinotruk trucks at a new facility in Iponri, Surulere, Lagos, as it prepares to launch a Drive-To-Own transport franchise across key routes in Nigeria and West Africa.

The company said the move is designed to speed up fleet renewal, strengthen its logistics capacity and create jobs. The plant, which also handles other Chinese commercial vehicle brands, has already produced 80 luxury buses and 40 trucks for the first phase of the franchise scheme.

The vehicles will serve routes linking the Southeast to the Northern region, alongside premium services on the Lagos–Accra corridor.

Chairman of the Chisco Group, Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, said the investment reflects the company’s focus on employment and service delivery.

“When I entered the transport business in 1981, my priority was creating jobs, not chasing profit. That mindset still guides us,” he said.

He added that the Drive-To-Own initiative is intended to expand passenger transport, cargo movement and parcel delivery while giving operators access to ownership opportunities.

Managing Director of Chisco Transport, Obinna Anyaegbu, said the company is responding to growing demand for reliable transport and logistics services, including the movement of essential goods such as medicines.

“We carry items that are critical to people’s lives. Meeting customer expectations is a responsibility we take seriously,” he said, urging interested participants to apply through the company’s recruitment email channel.

According to the company, the 53-seater air-conditioned Yutong buses come with cushioned seats, charging ports and onboard entertainment systems, while the Sinotruk trucks include sleeping compartments for drivers. The vehicles will also be available for purchase by other transport and logistics operators.

A Yutong technical team led by Mr. Damian Lee said the manufacturer would provide round-the-clock support, faster spare parts supply and maintenance training to keep the buses operational.

Beneficiaries of the Drive-To-Own scheme said they had received training and were prepared to deliver safe and efficient service on the routes.
