Chief Justice of Nigeria Swears in Son, 22 Others as High Court Judges

In a solemn ceremony at the Supreme Court in Abuja, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, administered the oath of office to his son, Olukayode Jnr, and 22 other distinguished legal professionals, officially elevating them to the esteemed position of Federal High Court Judges.

The Chief Justice, presiding over this significant event, swore in a diverse group of judges hailing from various states across Nigeria. Among those who took the judicial oath were Dipeolu Deinde Isaac from Ogun State, Ogundare Kehinde Olayiwola from Ekiti State, and Agbaje Olufunmilola Adetutu from Lagos State, all now entrusted with the responsibility of upholding justice at the Federal High Court.

The list of newly appointed judges continued with Musa Kakaki from Kaduna State, Abdullahi Muhammad Dan-Ige from Sokoto State, and Sharon Tanko Ishaya from Kebbi State, each bringing their unique legal expertise to the judiciary.

Additional judges sworn in include Salim Olasupo Ibrahim from Ogun State, Yilwa Hauwa Joseph from Gombe State, and Wigwe-Oreh Chituru Joy from Rivers State, among others. The diverse backgrounds and experiences of these judges are expected to contribute to a more comprehensive approach to dispensing justice in the Federal High Court.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) had previously announced the appointment of Justice Ariwoola’s son to the Federal High Court bench in July, a decision that garnered attention and discussion in legal circles. The NJC, under the leadership of Justice Ariwoola, made this appointment alongside the selection of one Grand Kadi, 23 other Federal High Court judges, and four Kadis for Kano’s Sharia Court of Appeal. This decision came during the NJC’s 103rd meeting, held in Abuja and presided over by Chief Justice Ariwoola himself.

As these newly appointed judges embark on their judicial journeys, they carry with them the weight of their responsibilities, entrusted with upholding the law and ensuring justice for all. The legal community will be watching closely as they begin their tenure on the Federal High Court bench.
