Carl Dean, Husband of Dolly Parton, Dies at 82
Carl Dean, the longtime husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82. The news was confirmed in a statement shared on Parton’s social media accounts on Monday.
“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82,” the statement read. It also noted that Dean will be laid to rest in a private ceremony attended by immediate family. He is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie.
Parton paid tribute to her husband, reflecting on their nearly six decades together. “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years,” she said. She also expressed gratitude for the support she has received, adding, “Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.” The message concluded with a request for privacy during this difficult time.
Dean and Parton married in 1966 and maintained a famously private relationship. While Parton’s career soared, Dean largely stayed out of the public eye, rarely making appearances with his wife. Despite his preference for a quiet life, Parton often spoke about their deep bond, crediting his love of rock music as inspiration for her 2023 album *Rockstar.*
“Most of these songs I chose because of Carl, and because I knew they were good songs, ’cause he knows good music,” she said in an interview with *Good Morning America.*
In a 2022 interview, Parton shared the key to their enduring marriage. “People ask, ‘How did it last so long?’ I say, ‘It’s stay going,’” she joked. She believed their differences played a role in their success, as Dean was not involved in the entertainment industry, allowing them to maintain separate interests while cherishing the time they spent together.
Humor, she said, was another secret to their strong relationship. “We both have a warped sense of humor. And I think humor, honestly, is one of the best things when you’re married like that. Even if you have a problem, if you have a great sense of humor, you usually have some crazy way of getting out of it.”
Dean’s passing marks the end of a remarkable love story that lasted nearly 60 years. Parton often spoke with admiration about the life they built together, and his memory will remain deeply cherished.
