British Nigerian Teen, Daniel Anjorin, Killed in UK Sword Attack at Age 14
A violent sword attack in the London suburb of Hainault has claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy identified as Daniel Anjorin. The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday morning, involved multiple crime scenes and led to a tense standoff with the attacker.
Metropolitan Police were called to Laing Close shortly before 07:00 after reports of a violent crash and stabbings. Initial information suggested that a man had driven a van into a fence and then proceeded to attack people with a sword. Police arrived on the scene within 12 minutes and encountered the attacker, who used a sword to resist arrest. Officers deployed Pava spray and Taser with limited success, resulting in injuries to two officers. The suspect fled but was eventually apprehended at Thurlow Gardens with the use of a Taser.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. He was later taken into police custody.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley expressed his condolences to the family of the young victim. “The thoughts of us all are with the parents of the 14-year-old boy who lost his life,” he said, acknowledging the bravery of officers involved in the high-risk arrest. He also emphasized the dangerous circumstances officers face regularly, stating that “nineteen officers a day are injured in London, seven days a week, 365 days a year.”
Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, leading the investigation, called the incident “an incredibly tragic event,” stating that the family’s privacy should be respected. He described the ongoing investigation as complex, with multiple crime scenes and a significant amount of forensic evidence to process. The police are appealing for patience as they work to gather information, including dashcam, doorbell, and mobile phone footage.
The police reported that a 33-year-old man was struck when the suspect crashed his van into the property, then attacked and sustained a neck wound. A 35-year-old man in a nearby property suffered lacerations to his arm from a separate attack by the suspect. Finally, Daniel Anjorin was attacked, resulting in his tragic death.
The police are asking for anyone with additional information or footage to come forward, as the investigation continues to build a clearer picture of the events. L
