“Bring Your Children to Compete with Mine in English” – MC Oluomo Fires Back at ‘Kundus’ Critics
President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has responded to the mockery surrounding his recent mispronunciation of the word “kudos” as “kundus,” challenging critics to compare their children’s achievements with his own.
In a video that surfaced on Tuesday, MC Oluomo addressed union delegates and hit back at those mocking his spoken English. He acknowledged that he is not highly educated but pointed out that his children, who are citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom, are academically accomplished.
“If you and my children come out to express yourself, I’m not sure you can beat them,” he said. “They are highly educated. I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there.”
MC Oluomo defended his background, explaining that his success was built through hard work in the transport sector, starting out as a bus conductor. He recounted his rise through the ranks of the NURTW, from unit treasurer to national president, underscoring that his journey was not shaped by classroom learning but by street-level experience and determination.
He dismissed the criticism over the viral “kundus” clip, in which he attempted to commend union members in Abuja but mispronounced “kudos.” Addressing the incident with humor and confidence, he said: “‘Kundusi!’ What happened? Grammars are too much. Grammar won’t finish Nigeria. I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba.”
“So they are mocking me for saying ‘kundusi’—is my child not Qudus? You that you are educated, what did you do?” he added.
MC Oluomo’s remarks have since sparked fresh conversations online, with some defending his stance and others continuing the banter over the blunder.
