Bomb Explosion Rocks Area Near Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, Police Launch Investigation

 

An explosion occurred on Monday afternoon near the Mogadishu Barracks area in Abuja, causing panic among residents and prompting an immediate response from security agencies. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced the launch of a full investigation into the cause and circumstances surrounding the blast.

 

According to a statement by FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the explosion happened around 2:50 p.m. on May 26, 2025. Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the area and carry out a detailed forensic assessment.

 

“One male victim was rescued from the scene with injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility,” the statement said. The area has since been cordoned off to ensure public safety and allow for proper investigation.

 

While the nature of the explosive device is yet to be determined, the police are treating the matter with urgency and have assured the public that necessary security measures are in place. The Command has urged residents to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that there is no cause for alarm.
