Boko Haram Strikes Again: Two Construction Workers Killed, Three Kidnapped in Yobe Attack

Gunmen believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram launched a deadly assault on Kukareta village along Maiduguri Road in Damaturu Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe State. The attack occurred on Sunday at approximately 3:00 am, lasting for about an hour.

The assailants targeted the town, firing shots indiscriminately and causing havoc. The terrorists, identified as Boko Haram fighters, reportedly set ablaze the residence of the district head, Alhaji Lawan Babagana, along with his 504 Peugeot car. Tragically, two construction workers, brought to the town by the Northeast Development Commission from Adamawa for the construction of Kukareta Market, lost their lives during the assault.

In a telephone conversation with Daily Trust’s reporter, Alhaji Lawan Babagana recounted the horrifying incident. The terrorists forcibly took the lives of the two construction workers and kidnapped three individuals who were in the town for grasshopper hunting. The victims, handcuffed by the assailants, were abducted in a vehicle belonging to local vigilantes, parked at the district head’s residence.

Law enforcement swiftly responded to the tragic event. The police operatives evacuated the bodies of the construction workers, transporting them to a specialist hospital in Damaturu for further investigation.

The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the state, as Boko Haram continues to pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of the local population.
