Biden Slips, Refers to Zelenskyy as ‘Putin’ and Harris as ‘Trump’ at NATO Summit
In a series of notable verbal miscues during the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) summit here, US President Joe Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin.” The slip-up occurred amidst a gathering of world leaders, capturing attention and sparking commentary on Biden’s recent debate performance and fitness for office.
Later in the summit proceedings, Biden made another verbal slip, addressing US Vice-President Kamala Harris as “Vice-President Trump,” a remark left uncorrected by the President.
These incidents come amid growing pressure from within the Democratic Party for Biden to withdraw from the upcoming presidential race. Critics cite concerns over his mental acuity, exacerbated by a lackluster debate showing against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump last month. During that debate, Biden’s responses appeared hesitant and at times incoherent, fueling speculation about his readiness to lead.
Despite calls for reconsideration from prominent figures such as actor George Clooney and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Biden remains resolute in his decision to continue campaigning. Defending his capability, Biden asserted to reporters that he remains in peak mental and physical condition to effectively challenge Trump in the November election.
