The unraveling of the brutal murder of Adeniyi Sanni, an aide to Senator Solomon Adeola, has taken a chilling twist. The Lagos police have paraded three suspects connected to the crime, shedding light on the gruesome incident that transpired on August 5 in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos.
The suspects, identified as Fred Azeez Okunnu, Lucky Idudu Micheal, and Adedigba Segun, confessed to their involvement in the heinous crime during a press briefing held at the police command’s headquarters in Ikeja. Their arrest comes after weeks of painstaking investigation.
The police commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed that a cache of incriminating items was recovered from the suspects, including multiple firearms and military gear. These alarming discoveries paint a sinister picture of the gang’s criminal activities.
What makes this case even more shocking is the suspects’ harrowing account of the events leading up to Sanni’s murder. Fred, one of the perpetrators, recounted the chilling moments that led to the aide’s untimely demise. According to him, the gang had set up a checkpoint and pulled over Sanni’s vehicle. Initially, they posed as military personnel, requesting the vehicle’s documents as part of their ruse.
However, when Sanni sensed something was amiss and began to shout “Thief,” the situation spiraled into tragedy. Fred admitted to firing two fatal shots at Sanni as he attempted to flee the scene. To make matters even more horrifying, Lucky, another member of the gang, fired additional shots at the victim. Amid the chaos, Segun, the third suspect, stabbed Sanni with a knife, leading to a gruesome altercation among the criminals.
The suspects then callously abandoned Sanni’s lifeless body by the roadside before making their escape to Abeokuta. It was revealed that their criminal operation was backed by an unidentified Alhaji based in Benin Republic, who specialized in robbing motorists.
Their modus operandi involved stationing a gang member near Berger bus stop to spot unregistered vehicles and alerting their comrades ahead, who would be dressed in convincing military attire. The victims, assuming they were dealing with genuine military personnel, would comply with requests for vehicle documents. This strategy enabled the gang to carry out multiple successful operations.
However, in Sanni’s case, he realized the danger when he was asked for his vehicle documents and attempted to escape. Tragically, this led to his brutal murder.
