Bandits Kill Nine Vigilantes in Bauchi Forest

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have mercilessly taken the lives of nine members of the local vigilante group in the dense Burra Forest, situated within the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The ill-fated vigilantes were courageously tracking the bandits within their forest hideouts when they tragically fell victim to the bandits’ wrath.

Yahaya Shuaibu, the Public Relations Officer of the local security group known as ‘Yan Ba Beli,’ one of the groups participating in the operation, verified this shocking incident. Shuaibu corroborated the unfortunate event in a statement to newsmen on Monday.

“Out of the nine brave individuals who lost their lives, only one belonged to our security team. The remaining eight were members of another local security group recognized as ‘Yan Vigilante.'”

He went on to explain the ongoing collaborative efforts between the various local security teams to eliminate the bandits from the forest, a mission that had been in progress for several weeks.

Shuaibu further revealed that the incident unfolded on Sunday evening. According to the information they received, their team had succeeded in apprehending some of the bandits within the mountainous terrain of Gamji village. However, before they could safely depart, a separate group of bandits ambushed them and opened fire.

Adding to the grim news, it has been reported that a Civil Defence officer lost his life at a checkpoint within the Ningi Local Government Area. The officer had been conducting routine checkpoint duties when the assailants struck. He had momentarily stepped aside to relieve himself in a nearby bush when the armed attackers ruthlessly ended his life and seized his firearm.

These recent events have thrust the vigilante groups into the spotlight for their relentless efforts in collaborating with conventional security forces to combat the menace of banditry.

As of now, the Police Public Relations Officer has not responded to calls, and no official statement has been issued regarding the tragic incident.
