Bandits Kidnap Police Inspector, Two Others in Kano, Release Video of Assault, Ransom Plea

Suspected bandits have abducted a police inspector attached to the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, along with two other men, and circulated a video showing them being beaten and forced to appeal for ransom.

The victims were identified as Inspector Kabiru Bello Adamu, a serving officer at the Police Academy, Wudil; Muntari; and Musa Rabiu, also known as Danladi. All three are from Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

In the video, the abductees appeared visibly distressed as armed men aimed rifles at them, struck them with sticks, and hit them with the butts of AK-47 rifles. The victims were compelled to beg their families and the public to raise money for their release.

A source said that the men were kidnapped while travelling from Rijiya Zaki Motor Park in Kano State to Kebbi State.

“They were abducted on their way to Kebbi. Inspector Kabiru Bello is a serving officer with the Police Academy in Wudil,” the source said.

Speaking in Hausa under apparent duress, Inspector Kabiru Bello identified himself and explained the circumstances of the abduction.

“My name is Kabiru Bello Adamu. I am a police officer working at the Police Academy, Wudil. Yesterday afternoon, I was travelling to Kebbi to visit relatives and former colleagues,” he said. “On the way, we encountered armed bandits in the bush, and we are now in their custody.”

He appealed for mercy, asking that the situation be resolved without further harm.

Another victim, Muntari, also pleaded for help, urging friends and relatives to intervene on their behalf.

Musa Rabiu said they were travelling from Kano to Birnin Kebbi when they ran into the armed group. At one point in the video, Rabiu remarked that the abductors were treating them “kindly,” a statement that provoked an angry response from one of the gunmen, followed by renewed beatings.

Throughout the footage, the victims could be heard crying out for forgiveness and assistance as the assaults continued.

The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in northern Nigeria, where kidnappings along major roads have become frequent, affecting civilians and security personnel alike.
