Bandits Ambush Wedding Convoy, Kidnap 55 in Katsina State

In an incident on Thursday night, suspected bandits ambushed a wedding convoy in Damari town, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, kidnapping 55 wedding guests who were escorting a bride home. The attack occurred at around 9 pm, with reports indicating that most victims were riding in an open van called a canter vehicle.

Tragically, in the frantic attempt to rescue the victims, three local security volunteers lost their lives. The hoodlums targeted the crowded canter vehicle, initially carrying over 70 guests, most of whom were friends of the bride. Several managed to escape by jumping off the moving vehicle when the terrorists seized control.

Sabuwa, already plagued by security challenges, has witnessed increased banditry, with the local government area grappling with the presence of bandits and their accomplices, often acting as informants. Alhaji Basiru Musa, Chairman of Dandume Local Government Area, confirmed the incident, expressing concern over the escalating security situation.

While unconfirmed reports suggest that a few kidnapped women managed to escape, Chairman Musa pledged to verify and provide updates. He clarified that despite the victims being from Dandume, the bandits intercepted them on their way from Sabuwa Local Government Area at around 9 pm.

In a related incident, gunmen reportedly from the Siddi forest infiltrated Tashar Nadaya near the Gazari district border in Sabuwa LG. The criminals killed a commercial motorcycle rider and made off with his bike. Additionally, they opened fire on a group of four individuals, confiscating their motorcycles.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation of these abductions from the police and other security agencies have been unsuccessful, adding to the mounting concerns over the security situation in Katsina State.
