Attacks on Seyi Tinubu an Affront to Nigerian Youths, Less Privileged – Balami
APC chieftain and youth advocate, Comrade Isaac Balami, has strongly condemned ongoing social media attacks against Seyi Tinubu, describing them as direct assaults on Nigerian youths and the less privileged. Balami argued that Seyi Tinubu has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the empowerment and welfare of young people across the country, and any attempt to discredit him should be seen as a broader attack on those he supports.
Referencing a recent viral video from Seyi Tinubu’s visit to Rome alongside President Bola Tinubu for the Pope’s inauguration, Balami dismissed suggestions that the president’s son was snubbed by the Pope. He described the interpretation of the clip as a deliberate attempt to twist the narrative, asserting that Seyi was simply being redirected by protocol to join his father.
Balami criticized what he described as a trend in Nigerian politics where rising figures are targeted with smear campaigns. He urged young Nigerians to resist being used to tarnish the image of individuals like Seyi Tinubu, who he says has been unfairly dragged into baseless controversies. “One doesn’t need to disparage others to succeed,” Balami said. “Those with the ‘Pull Him Down’ syndrome should understand that you can shine without dimming another person’s light.”
Recalling previous instances, Balami mentioned that Seyi Tinubu had faced repeated attacks online, including one involving a factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who later apologized. He noted that it had become a routine for detractors to target Seyi Tinubu on social media platforms, regardless of the facts.
Responding to accusations that Seyi Tinubu might be eyeing the Lagos State governorship seat in the next election, Balami said his growing popularity among youths could be the reason behind such attacks. He insisted that Seyi’s work, especially through his foundation, has had a significant impact on Nigerian youth, earning him genuine grassroots support.
“Seyi Tinubu is a role model for young Nigerians,” Balami said. “While others may use opportunities for frivolous activities, Seyi has shown discipline and commitment by supporting his father and staying focused on meaningful engagements.”
He urged young Nigerians to remain vigilant and form a unified front against what he described as coordinated propaganda. “If Seyi Tinubu, with all his resources and goodwill, can be subjected to online bullying, then ordinary young Nigerians aspiring for leadership must be even more cautious.”
Balami concluded by encouraging Nigerian youths to focus on substance over sensationalism. “If we are still debating handshakes in an era where the world is moving rapidly, then we clearly have misplaced priorities,” he said. “Seyi is investing in youths; it’s time we invested our energy in protecting and supporting those who genuinely uplift us.”
