Attack on Amaechi: “Wike Will Insult Tinubu One Day — Mark My Words!” Reuben Abati Explodes on Live TV
Veteran broadcaster and media personality Reuben Abati has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, advising him to be cautious in his dealings with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Speaking during a segment on Arise TV on Tuesday morning, Abati described Wike as a disrespectful and rude politician with a history of turning against those who helped shape his political career.
Abati’s comments followed a media parley on Monday, June 3, during which Wike dismissed remarks made by former governor Rotimi Amaechi about growing hunger in Nigeria. Wike claimed Amaechi’s concerns were not about food but about a loss of political power. “Now that they are out of power, they say they are hungry. It’s not hunger for food. It’s hunger for power,” Wike said.
In response, Abati criticised Wike’s tone and attitude, accusing him of speaking carelessly and disrespecting former political mentors. “I think that Nyesom Wike is very rude and disrespectful because Rotimi Amaechi is his boss in politics. When he was local government chairman during Amaechi’s second term, it was Rotimi Amaechi that helped him,” Abati stated.
He further pointed to Wike’s repeated verbal attacks on elder statesman Peter Odili, saying, “There is no time he has not insulted Peter Odili. He even referred to him and his wife dismissively as ‘one man’ and ‘one woman.’”
Abati went on to suggest that President Tinubu should be wary of Wike’s loyalty, citing a pattern of disrespect toward former allies. “Who will Nyesom Wike not insult? He insulted Senator John Mbata, who was his godfather at some point. He has also shown signs that he will insult President Bola Tinubu,” he warned.
According to Abati, Wike’s comments about not anticipating Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State reflect a self-serving approach to politics. “That is already a signal to Tinubu that this man you are dealing with is only interested in his own permanent interests, not permanent friends. President Tinubu should beware because tomorrow he will also abuse this same President Tinubu,” Abati said.
