Atiku, Obi, Amaechi Must Agree on Consensus or Face Primaries in 2027 – ADC Spokesman
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it will prioritize consensus in the selection of its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections but will conduct primaries if aspirants fail to reach an agreement. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an appearance on Arise Television on Thursday.
Abdullahi explained that the ADC would not be drawn into zoning controversies or early presidential declarations, emphasizing instead the importance of strengthening its nationwide structures. He described leadership as knowing what to do at the right time and assured that the party remains committed to fairness in the process.
“Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run, that does not stop anyone else. What we are committed to is a level playing ground. We will pursue consensus, and if that fails, we will hold competitive primaries,” Abdullahi said.
He stressed that the party’s current priority is building what he described as a “fighting structure,” rather than engaging in premature debates about zoning.
This comes as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already zoned their presidential tickets to the South ahead of the 2027 elections.
