Atiku Challenges Tinubu: “Defend Allegations of Forgeries, Stop Chasing Shadows”

In a recent press conference held in Abuja, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, has called on President Bola Tinubu and his team to address the allegations of forgeries and controversies surrounding him, urging them to stop what he termed “chasing shadows” and defend their actions.

The press conference, led by Atiku’s aides, was a response to the ongoing controversy regarding documents from Chicago State University that revealed alleged certificate forgeries and impersonation by President Bola Tinubu. Atiku’s media advisers accused Tinubu’s team of attempting to divert attention from these serious allegations by focusing on a seemingly inconsequential detail concerning an affidavit Atiku filed over 50 years ago.

According to Atiku’s team, Tinubu’s media aides and supporters appeared fixated on the day/date on which the affidavit was signed by Atiku in August 1973, specifically noting that it was a Saturday. They mocked Tinubu’s team for their relentless pursuit of this minor detail and compared it to a futile quest for a point of attack in Atiku’s public profile.

The press conference emphasized that the focus should be on the serious allegations against Tinubu, including the submission of a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission and questions surrounding his academic history. Atiku’s team called on Tinubu to follow Atiku’s example in addressing these doubts by providing transparency and openness about his past, including releasing a copy of his 1970 certificate from Government College Lagos and disclosing any potential skeletons in his closet.

The press conference ended with a reminder that Nigeria is a country of laws, and no individual, regardless of their status, is above those laws. Atiku’s team hoped that their clarification regarding the Saturday affidavit would put an end to the ongoing controversy and urged Tinubu’s team to address the serious allegations that have brought embarrassment to Nigeria. They also hinted at possible forthcoming revelations from US security agencies regarding President Bola Tinubu’s past.
