Atiku Calls for Thorough Investigation into Kaduna Airstrike Incident

Former Nigerian presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar expresses deep sorrow over the accidental bombing in Kaduna’s Tudun Biri community by the Nigerian Army. In a statement, Atiku calls for a comprehensive investigation into the incident, where 86 lost their lives and 66 sustained injuries during a drone airstrike aimed at banditry and kidnapping hotspots in Nigeria’s North-West.

Atiku, who described the incident as “unfortunate,” emphasizes the need for robust counterinsurgency strategies to shield civilians from such tragic occurrences. He states, “The incidence of miscalculated air strikes is assuming a worrisome dimension in the country.”

“I call on the authorities to launch a thorough investigation into this tragedy to avert future occurrences,” Atiku asserts, urging a proactive approach to prevent similar incidents.

Condoling with the victims’ families, Atiku emphasizes the importance of providing comprehensive medical attention to the injured and support to the families of the deceased. He offers prayers for comfort to the bereaved families and eternal peace for the departed.

President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have already ordered an inquiry into the incident, expressing their condolences to the affected families. Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale describes President Tinubu’s reaction as “very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful,” emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.

Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has visited the affected community for on-the-spot assessment and to offer condolences to the victims and their families. This tragic incident adds to a series of deadly military accidents, highlighting the challenges faced by Nigeria’s armed forces in their ongoing battle against bandit militias and jihadist groups.
