ASUU Mobilizes for Nationwide Rallies Tuesday, Warns of Impending Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to stage nationwide rallies on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as part of renewed pressure on the Federal Government to address unresolved issues affecting the nation’s universities.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, the union’s Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, said the rallies mark ASUU’s first decisive response to what it describes as the government’s continued inaction. He noted that academic activities would be suspended during the demonstrations, which will take place simultaneously across universities.
Egbedokun explained that the National Executive Council of ASUU has given the government until its meeting on August 28 to respond to its demands. The outcome of that meeting, he said, will determine the union’s next steps.
“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit,” Egbedokun declared. “If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, then it must bear the consequences of the storm that will follow.”
The looming action raises concerns of a fresh nationwide strike, a scenario that could once again disrupt academic calendars across public universities.
