Asset declaration: CCB Set to Investigate Three Former Governors, Nine Former Ministers

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has launched a discreet investigation into former public officials from the previous administration who allegedly violated asset declaration laws. The investigation targets individuals suspected of making false declarations or failing to declare their assets altogether.

According to sources within the CCB, the bureau plans to invite three former governors, nine former ministers, and former heads of various federal and state parastatals for questioning. Letters of invitation have already been dispatched to these individuals, requesting their presence at the CCB headquarters.

The CCB’s move aims to provide the accused an opportunity to clarify their asset acquisitions, including substantial bank accounts. Those found guilty of breaches or non-compliance could face charges before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, potentially leading to the confiscation of illicit assets and a ban from holding public office for up to ten years.

This investigation is part of the CCB’s renewed effort to enforce compliance with asset declaration laws. Supported by President Bola Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the bureau is collaborating with other anti-graft agencies to ensure thorough scrutiny and proper investigation.

Notably, President Tinubu himself was previously invited by the CCB and acquitted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The bureau stresses that all citizens subject to these laws must comply with investigations to uphold legal standards.

High-profile figures expected to appear before the CCB include a former executive secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims, the aforementioned governors, legislators, ministers, and a former head of a maritime agency.
