ASP, Two Others Kidnapped on Way to Onitsha from Abuja Rescued by Edo Police
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have successfully rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and two other individuals from kidnappers. The victims, ASP Elisha Jeremiah, attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Abuja, Oyedele Ebenezer of Ogbidi Road, Uromi, and Useni Malam Inusa, were abducted while traveling from Abuja to Onitsha, Anambra State, on Wednesday, January 29. Their vehicle, a Toyota Sienna bus, was intercepted at Okhuesan-Ewohimi Road around 6:40 p.m.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, operatives from the Ubiaja Divisional Headquarters, in collaboration with other tactical teams, swiftly launched a manhunt for the kidnappers. The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, further reinforced the operation by deploying additional Police Mobile Force personnel to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of the perpetrators.
Acting on intelligence, officers, alongside local hunters and vigilantes, combed the bushes around Ugbebor on Tuesday at approximately 3:30 p.m. The pressure from the advancing security team forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention and will soon be reunited with their families. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
