Ashley Young, 40, set to make history by playing alongside son Tyler at Ipswich Town
Manchester United legend Ashley Young is preparing for a remarkable new chapter in his career, as he is set to play alongside his 19-year-old son, Tyler Young, at Ipswich Town.
The pair are on the verge of becoming the first father-son duo to share the pitch in Championship history. This comes after they narrowly missed out on another piece of footballing history last season. Tyler, then with Peterborough United, was on the bench for an FA Cup clash against Everton, where his father was among the substitutes for the Premier League side. Had both featured, they would have been the first father and son to play against each other in the competition’s 154-year history.
Ashley Young, who enjoyed a decorated career with Manchester United and won the Premier League, signed for Ipswich Town in July at the age of 40. Tyler, meanwhile, joined the club after stints in the youth systems of Arsenal, MK Dons, and QPR before signing with Peterborough in 2024. He made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy and also featured on the bench across League One, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup fixtures.
Now reunited at Portman Road, the Youngs have the chance to create a moment never before seen in English football. For Ashley, it represents yet another milestone in a career defined by longevity, while for Tyler, it’s the opportunity to begin his journey alongside a legendary figure—his father.
