“As Muslims, Accept Your Destiny, Whether Good or Bad,” Sokoto Governor Tells Victims of Military Bombing

Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has urged victims of a military airstrike in Silame Local Government Area to accept the tragedy as part of their fate, following the incident on December 25 that left 10 people dead and six others injured. Describing the bombing as an unintended error during military operations, the governor emphasized the Islamic principle of accepting destiny during his remarks at the victims’ burial.

“This is considered destiny, and as Muslims, it’s good for us to accept destiny, whether it’s good or bad,” Aliyu said, according to BBC reports.

The airstrike, which also killed over 100 animals, targeted the villages of Rumtuwa and Gidan Sama near the Surame Desert, a known militant hideout. Local government chairman Abubakar Muhammad confirmed that both air and ground forces participated in the attack, describing it as a relentless assault that only stopped after state intervention.

Governor Aliyu reassured the community that the bombing was a mistake, pledging to work with authorities to prevent similar incidents. He also provided relief, including food supplies and financial aid, while emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.
