Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Rotimi Amaechi on his 61st birthday, describing him as a patriot whose public service continues to inspire Nigerians.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-minister of transportation, was born on May 27, 1965, in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a message shared on his X account on Wednesday, Atiku praised Amaechi’s contributions to Rivers State and the country.

“Happy Birthday to my brother and fellow patriot, H.E. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,” Atiku wrote.

“Your courage, conviction, and years of service to Rivers State and Nigeria continue to inspire many across the nation.

“I wish you good health, strength, and many more years of impactful service to our dear country.”

Both Atiku and Amaechi are among aspirants seeking the 2027 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Other contenders include Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

The ADC conducted its nationwide direct presidential primary on Monday, with results announced from 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Atiku is currently leading the race and is expected to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate after recording victories in most of the states announced so far.

However, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi described the figures released from the primary as “concocted” and said he would not accept results from a process that failed to reflect the party’s stated democratic principles.

Hayatu-Deen also questioned the credibility of the exercise, saying the process did not meet standards of fairness and transparency.
