Troops under Operation UDO KA have taken into custody a man suspected of acting as an intelligence source for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Anambra State.
The arrest was made on Saturday during a joint patrol along the Owerre-Ezukala route in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area. The operation involved personnel of the Nigerian Army working alongside police officers, operatives of the Department of State Services, and members of local vigilante groups.
Security sources indicated that the suspect was allegedly tracking and relaying information on the movement of security teams operating in the area.
Following his arrest, he was handed over to local vigilante operatives for initial questioning and documentation.
Military personnel have since maintained a presence in the area to deter further incidents and support ongoing security activity.
Authorities say intelligence-driven operations targeting suspected criminal networks in the South-East have been stepped up in recent weeks.
