The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Alex Otti to publicly state his political position ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging him to openly declare support for President Bola Tinubu if that aligns with his political stance.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s publicity secretary, Uche Aguoru, accused the governor of maintaining a mixed political posture between opposition groups and the federal government.

Aguoru argued that Otti’s approach contrasts with other state leaders who have made their positions clear ahead of the next election cycle.

He cited Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as an example of political clarity.

“Whether one agrees with Governor Soludo or not, there is something to be said about him for his political courage, honesty and consistency,” Aguoru said.

“He has made his position known and has never been known to speak from both sides of his mouth even during his campaign period.”

The APC spokesperson said Otti should follow the same path and end what he described as ambiguity in his political messaging.

According to him, the governor is attempting to maintain influence across opposing political camps while avoiding a clear declaration of support for the president’s re-election bid.

“While everyone is aware of Governor Otti’s longstanding political alliance with Mr. Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement, it is becoming increasingly evident that he seeks to retain the support of the Obidient Movement and other anti-Tinubu forces to secure his re-election,” he said.

“At the same time, he secretly attempts to create the impression that he is supportive of the APC-led Federal Government while deliberately avoiding any open acknowledgment of President Tinubu’s leadership or public support for his re-election.”

Aguoru also referenced the Renewed Hope National Media Tour visit to Abia, alleging that the state government distanced itself from the federal delegation.

He claimed that instead of receiving the team directly, the governor delegated officials to handle the engagement.

“Rather than personally receive the team, he delegated aides to handle the visit, carefully distancing himself from any situation that might require him to publicly acknowledge President Tinubu’s unprecedented infrastructural interventions in Abia State,” he said.

The APC spokesperson insisted that the governor should be explicit about where he stands politically.

“Governor Otti should be bold enough to publicly declare that President Tinubu is doing well. He should publicly declare support for his re-election,” Aguoru said.

“He should have the courage to state his support openly, and publicly tell his supporters to support Tinubu’s re-election if indeed he believes in the Tinubu re-election project.”

The party added that it remains focused on strengthening its political structure in Abia State ahead of 2027, with plans to contest and win across all major elective positions.

Governor Otti has not issued a response to the statement.
