A 23-year-old nursing student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, has been found dead in her apartment in Uruezeani, Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The deceased, identified as Chiamaka Chilaka, was an ND II student of the institution and a native of Isingu in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State. She was reportedly discovered lifeless in her apartment on Sunday after attending a church service.

A video circulating on social media shows a cleric mourning the student and repeatedly calling out, "My daughter," in grief. Social media users also alleged that the student had rejected repeated advances from her landlord and was last seen in an altercation with him. However, the police have not confirmed those claims.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the landlord had been arrested and was being questioned as investigations continue.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered a full investigation after the case was transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.

According to the police, officers who visited the scene observed visible injuries on the student's body, including a deep cut on her thigh, other marks of violence and bloodstains, raising suspicion of foul play.

The police said the body has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

"The landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations," Ikenga said.

The command assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and pledged to ensure anyone found responsible is brought to justice. It also appealed to members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist the investigation.
