Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that the central focus of Peter Obi is to secure a place on Nigeria’s presidential ballot in successive elections.
In a post shared on X on Monday, Ahmad alleged that Obi’s political strategy is less about the platform he runs on and more about consistently participating in presidential contests.
He wrote:
“For Peter Obi, it appears that his ultimate political ambition is to ensure that his face is on the presidential ballot, regardless of how insignificant the platform may be.
He achieved that in 2023, he will do it again in 2027 and if circumstances permit, he may even make one final attempt in 2031.”
Ahmad maintained that Obi’s pattern of participation could continue in future election cycles, including the 2027 and possibly 2031 general elections.
In the 2023 presidential election, Obi contested under the Labour Party and emerged third in the final standings. He was defeated by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party came second.
