Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi on Monday visited the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, at his residence in Abuja.

Photos from the meeting showed Amaechi and Atiku together alongside other party stakeholders, including veteran actor and ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo.

Neither Amaechi nor Atiku had publicly disclosed the purpose of the meeting as of the time of filing this report.

The visit comes weeks after the ADC presidential primary, where Atiku defeated Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to secure the party's ticket for the 2027 election.

Amaechi finished second in the contest, while Hayatu-Deen came third.

Following the primary, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen raised concerns about the conduct of the exercise, arguing that the process was not free and fair.

In the aftermath of the election, Atiku separately visited both men as part of efforts to unite the party ahead of the general election campaign.

Monday's meeting is likely to fuel political speculation within the ADC, particularly as Atiku has yet to announce a running mate for the 2027 race. However, there is no official indication that the discussion was connected to the vice-presidential position or any other specific political arrangement.

The meeting nevertheless signals continued engagement between the former vice president and one of his closest rivals in the party's presidential primary.
