The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Awka South II Constituency, Sam Chuks Okpanduka, has assured supporters that the party remains on the ballot ahead of the forthcoming election, urging them to ignore what he described as distractions by political opponents.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Okpanduka thanked party members, supporters and residents of Awka South II for their continued support, prayers and confidence in the party's vision.
He said recent legal developments involving the party should not cause panic, maintaining that the NDC remains united and committed to participating in the election while pursuing legal processes.
"The Nigeria Democratic Congress remains firmly on the ballot. Our party is strong, united, and determined to offer Nigerians a credible alternative. We have absolute confidence that truth, justice, and the rule of law will prevail," Okpanduka said.
The Awka South II candidate said political resistance is common for emerging movements gaining public support, adding that the party's leadership has chosen to seek judicial redress in line with democratic principles.
He urged supporters to remain calm and avoid rumours and misinformation that could discourage voters.
"Our mission remains unchanged. We are committed to restoring the people's voice in governance, providing quality representation, and delivering the dividends of democracy to every community in Awka South II Constituency. Nothing should distract us from this noble objective," he said.
Okpanduka also expressed confidence that the party's growing support across the constituency would translate into victory at the polls.
He called on members and supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding and continue mobilising eligible voters, stressing that democracy depends on citizens exercising their constitutional right to choose their leaders freely.
Expressing optimism despite the ongoing legal issues, the NDC candidate said the challenges would only strengthen the party's resolve.
"Let us remain united and hopeful. Together, we shall protect our votes, defend democracy, and usher in a new era of accountable leadership. The journey continues, and by the grace of God, victory is certain," he said.
