A 26-year-old legal practitioner, Sara Araba Tettey, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest during celebrations following FIFA World Cup action involving Ghana and Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Tettey, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, had been called to the Ghana Bar earlier in the year and worked with O & A Legal Consult.
She was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel near the KNUST campus in Kumasi when she reportedly became unresponsive shortly after the final whistle and ensuing celebrations.
She was taken to KNUST Hospital, where medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about 45 minutes. She was later confirmed dead.
Colleagues and former classmates described her as diligent and highly driven, noting her recent entry into legal practice.
Her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, with an autopsy and burial arrangements pending.
