Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has criticised relationships driven by financial motives, describing the practice as a "romantic scam."

Speaking during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Ike said some women enter relationships primarily to obtain money from their partners, arguing that such behaviour amounts to deception.

According to the actor, genuine relationships should be built on love rather than financial expectations.

"If you find someone who genuinely likes you, it's very sweet. But when you are liking him or her for an end they are not aware of, that's a scam," he said.

Ike also advised women who pursue relationships solely for financial support to consider street begging instead of misleading unsuspecting men.

"A lot of girls are going into relationships because of what they want to get from the man. They should just join street-begging instead of using relationship to raise money," he said.

The actor maintained that love and marriage should not be treated as avenues for financial gain, stressing that honesty and mutual affection remain the foundation of healthy relationships.

He added that relationships should not be viewed as a source of income and urged people to stop pretending to be in love for financial benefits.
