APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has appealed to Nigerians to show mercy to Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, the woman accused of brutalising a 10-year-old boy who was left in her care.
His appeal comes after a video circulated on social media on Thursday, June 18, showing Chukwuyere in tears as officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs took her infant child into protective custody following her arrest and detention by the police.
The move drew widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing support for the authorities' action.
Reacting to the development, Igbokwe said the woman's emotional breakdown moved him and urged Nigerians to forgive her.
"Despite the despicable behavior of this woman, I plead for forgiveness because of her child. She has learnt her lessons in the hardest way. Her cries touched me to the marrow.
"The boy she maltreated will be fine, and he will be a great man and a wonderful person. Let Nigerians join me to plead for this woman and her daughter.
"By the way, where is her husband? He should show face at a time like this for his family," he wrote.
