The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, bail in the sum of N200 million in his ongoing trial over social media posts about President Bola Tinubu.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Mohammed Umar ordered Sowore to provide two sureties. One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property in Abuja.
The court directed the prosecution to verify the sureties before the bail conditions can be perfected.
Justice Umar also ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
The case was adjourned until Monday for the commencement of the defence.
The State Security Service (SSS) is prosecuting Sowore over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by describing him as "a criminal" in posts published on X and Facebook. Sowore has denied the allegation.
